Self-compassion is associated with positive states like happiness, life satisfaction, and optimism. It has also been shown to improve physical health, reduce depression, anxiety, stress, shame, and negative body image. Additionally, self-compassion provides resilience and helps people to cope with major stressors such as divorce, chronic medical problems, trauma, and chronic pain. For example, self-compassion has been shown to be associated with less PTSD in combat veterans.
